RYA Coastal Skipper Motor Cruising Courses.

Suggested pre-course experience: 15 days sailing experience, 300 miles, 8 night hours, 2 days as skipper and Coastal skipper / Yachtmaster theory level.

5 Day RYA Coastal Skipper Practical tidal course

Following on from Day Skipper, Coastal skipper is the next stepping stone towards Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore.

The course teaches the skills and techniques required to skipper a motor cruiser safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and by night.

There is a more in depth study of navigation and seamanship covered during this course than that of the Day Skipper course. You will be expected to take control of the vessel on longer passages and show a high skill level in boat handling and berthing.

If you would like to do the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster theory course please look at the theory courses link on the left.  We offer classroom, online and combination courses. The theory courses are the same for motor and sail.

Accommodation is included in this course as longer passages will be taken as part of the course.

To be a yacht skipper requires more than just sailing skills.
A yacht should be happy and pleasant experience  for everyone on board.
The captain Bligh days are long gone.

A good skipper will never shout at the crew.
If everything is explained properly by the skipper beforehand then everyone will know what to do and everything will run smoothly.
A skipper that shouts is usually covering up a lack of communication skills and possibly poor yacht handling skills.
