Yacht quality.

The yachts used by Allabroad are solely used by Allabroad and not contracted in from other schools. This how Allabroad keeps the quality of the yachts up to the required standard.
Our yachts are subject to independent spot inspections in order to maintain our high standards.

Safety requirements.

The coding on all our yachts is MCA for coastal use up to 60 miles offshore.

This means the boat is allowed to operate legally up to 60 miles off shore.

It is very important when doing any sort of charter or sailing course that you check the yacht and skipper are legal.

To check if a yacht you are chartering or doing a course on is coded for the use it is being put to contact the RYA or the MCA

Requirements RYA Instructor qualifications.

Up to Day skipper level an RYA cruising instructor is qualified to instruct. Any level above this and a full RYA Yachtmaster instructor is required.
With any sail training centre students should make sure they are being taught by an instructor qualified to teach the course they are on.

RYA Theory Courses regulations.

The regulations on teaching theory are very clear. Theory, for an RYA certificate, can only be taught using a approved distance learning method by a school recognised to teach them or in a classroom by a school recognised by the RYA to teach theory courses.

Theory courses taught on a yacht, self taught or by use of a distance learning pack issued by a school not recognised to provide distance learning can not qualify a student for an exam or theory certificate.

Tidal Waters.

Gibraltar has a Mediterranean climate and the tidal waters required for tidal certificates.

No where else in the Mediterranean Sea can this be found.

Lost sailing days.

There are rarely days lost through inclement weather and sailing is rarely spoilt by lack of wind.

Gibraltar bay is sheltered so on those odd days when the wind is strong we still get to sail.

This makes Gibraltar one of the best choices for a sailing holiday and course.

The area.

In Gibraltar Bay there are four marinas so even if the weather is poor it is rarely so poor that yachts can not sail in the huge sheltered Bay of Gibraltar which gives access to other marinas in Gibraltar and Spain.

Just across the Straits of Gibraltar is Morocco with its wealth of history and travel along the opposite coast and Portugal is just a days sail away.

Best times to sail in Gibraltar.

This depends on what you are looking for.

If you want really warm sunny days June July and August. If you are looking for milder weather like a good British summer choose September, October, November, April, or May.

If you like a mixture then December, January and February are best.

"Twenty years from now you will be disappointed by the things that you didn't do than the ones that you did do.
So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour.
Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover".
